How to extract skull from MRI image?

Hi,

I'm trying to extract only the skull from the image. The problem here is that a little tumor between the eyes is somehow connected to skull and when I remove the skull by threshold, the tumor goes with the skull. The center of the tumor is in pixel(395,252) in the attached 3d data.
