How to read a VAMAS file in MATLAB?

I'm trying to write a code to plot a graph of the information in VAMAS files (*.vms), and analyse the spectrum they describe - but ATLAB cannot 'load' or 'csvread' them though, as they're not a recognised format (I assume).

However you can open them in notepad easily enough, and the information is easily arranged in that. I'm sure I could write a code in Matlab to use the information inside it, but how do I get Matlab first to read it, so I can do that?
