Motor Control Architecture for Multiple Production Programs
Devendra Bajpai, Magna E Car Systems
Magna E Car Systems provides motor control solutions for the BEV and HEV automobile markets. The major design objectives for the motor control team are to support a wide range of automotive applications, develop state-of-art control strategies, and reduce development time for productions. This presentation describes the motor control software architecture that was designed to fulfill these objectives.
A model-based motor control architecture is developed and serves as a complete prototype development platform that includes application-specific controls, motor control strategies, analog/digital signal conditioning/processing, preemptive multitask scheduling, flexible CAN communication, flash memory control, CPU load monitoring, and all other customized device drivers. This integrated environment is used for the motor control strategy development by the motor control team, simulation and testing by the system engineering team, and production-level embedded code generation by the production team. To enable multidiscipline production teams across the world to collaborate, the core control subsystems are highly modularized to be applicable for different processor targets and to be interfaceable with either hand-coded or generated low-level device driver and product-specific diagnostic layers. Intellectual property (IP) protection is also provided without sacrificing logic transparency and easiness of debugging.
