Modeling, Simulating, and Generating Code for a Solar Inverter

Chris Clearman, Texas Instruments
Jonathan LeSage, MathWorks
Brian McKay, MathWorks

Overview

In this webinar, learn how you can quickly design a new power control system using Simulink and Embedded Coder® from MathWorks and the C2000™ platform of microcontrollers from Texas Instruments. We walk through a solar inverter demo, where we design and simulate a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control in Simulink, and then deploy the control with Embedded Coder to a Texas Instruments C2000 Piccolo™ MCU.

Designed for high-performance power electronic control applications, TI’s C2000™ MCUs have been used in a wide range of industrial and automotive markets for over 20 years. MathWorks provides software that enables modeling, simulation, and code generation of control systems using Simulink® and Embedded Coder®. Embedded Coder support for TI’s C2000 platform of microcontrollers includes automated build and execution, processor-optimized code including motor control and IQMath libraries, and the ability to perform processor-in-the-loop (PIL) tests with execution profiling.

About the Presenters

Chris Clearman is a marketing engineer for Texas Instruments C2000 MCUs and specializes in power electronics control systems.  He has been with TI for 18 years and has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Jonathan LeSage is a Senior Application Engineer specializing in the Energy Production and Industrial Automation industries and has been with the MathWorks since 2013. His focus at the MathWorks is on building models of multi-physics systems and then leveraging them for control design, hardware-in-the-loop testing and embedded code generation. Jonathan holds a B.S. and a Ph.D from the University of Texas at Austin specializing in power systems, controls, and machine learning.

Brian McKay is a Technical Marketing Manager specializing in MathWorks solutions for embedded systems customers. He has been building customer solutions that combine MathWorks software with embedded hardware for over 20 years. He has B.S. and M.S. degrees in General Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
