Designing a Battery System for the VX4 eVTOL Aircraft
Emma Palin, Vertical Aerospace
Felix Diaz-Maroto Rivas, Vertical Aerospace
With the rise in electrified mobility, battery systems are a central component in realising the future of transportation. Understanding the behaviour of the battery throughout its lifetime, all the way from individual cell to pack level, is critical to the design of safe and performant airborne vehicles.
Come and see how Vertical Aerospace’s engineers use MathWorks tools across the development of their battery system. This starts with easy and quick accessibility of raw experimental data so engineers can gather the understanding of how cells behave and age throughout their lifetime. This pipeline of experimental data enables efficient parameterization of battery cell models for use in simulation to explore dynamics and performance across a wide range of scenarios. Well validated cell models enable various teams at Vertical Aerospace to scale up these individual cell simulation models to enable system level powertrain and full aircraft analysis.
