Beyond Excel: Enhancing Your Data Analysis with MATLAB

Sergio Obando Quintero, MathWorks

Many technical professionals find that they run into limitations using Excel for their data analysis applications. Sign up for this webinar to learn how MATLAB can supplement the capabilities of Microsoft Excel by providing access to thousands of pre-built mathematical and advanced analysis functions, versatile visualization tools, and the ability to automate your analysis workflows.

MATLAB is a high-level language and interactive platform for data analysis, visualization and numerical computation. Through examples, you will see how MATLAB enables you to quickly gain insight into your data, test hypothesis and explore ideas, and document and share your results.

Highlights Include:

  • Access data from files and Excel spreadsheets
  • Use interactive tools for iterative exploration and visualization
  • Develop algorithms and applications to automate your workflow
  • Share your results with others using one-click report generation
  • Deploy your analysis tools as standalone applications or Excel add-ins

This session is intended for people who are new to MATLAB. No prior programming experience or knowledge of MATLAB is assumed. Experienced users may also benefit from the session, as the engineer will be showing capabilities from recent releases of MATLAB including new ways to store and manage data commonly found in spreadsheets.

About the Presenter:

Sergio E. Obando Quintero is an Application Engineer at MathWorks. He holds a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell where he worked as a research assistant at the Structural Dynamics and Acoustic Systems Laboratory specializing in Modal Analysis and Vibrations. Sergio's research was on the validation of reduced order models for the prediction of nonlinear forced response problems where he used MATLAB to develop and solve FEA models. Sergio also holds a M.S. in Applied Mathematics from WPI and a B.S. in Mathematics from Worcester State College. Currently, his areas of interest include operational and experimental modal analysis, parallel computing, numerical methods, and mathematical modeling among others.
