Get Matlab R2019b as default program to open .m files on Windows 7

4 views (last 30 days)
Since I have installed R2019b on my Windows 7, .m files have stopped being automatically associated with Matlab.
When i click "Open With" I can't find Matlab in the list of suggested programs.
I have tried browsing for it and selecting the MATLAB application in the folder C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2019b\bin\win64 but that does not work.
Can anyone help me re-associate Matlab to .m and .mat files?
Thank you.

In the open with dialog box you need to check the box that says always use this program. Did you do that? Can you provide screenshots of the steps you took?

You can select the 'matlab.exe' file in the folder below:
C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2019b\bin\win64
That should make it show up in the selector and work as intended.
It is possible that this will result in a new Matlab window opening every time you open a file from explorer. The only general solution I know for that issue is re-installing Matlab (without a silent installer), which should solve all file association issue.

Re-installing Matlab was the only solution in the end.
Selecting 'matlab.exe' would not make Matlab appear in the lsit of recommended options for some reason.
Thank you!
