I am using r2015b. Apparently I cannot use the 'yyaxis left/right' command to plot graphs with 2 vertical axes. How do I go about it?

The online documentation is for the most recent release of our products (currently release R2017b.) If you're using an older release, that documentation may describe functions and functionality that was introduced after the release you're using.
In that case you probably want to refer to the documentation included in your installation (or double-check that a function or functionality you find in the online documentation is also listed in your local documentation) as your locally-installed documentation will describe only capabilities available in the release you're using.
In your local documentation, the page for plotyy does not have that "not recommended" tag because the yyaxis function we recommend using instead in newer releases didn't exist yet. yyaxis was introduced in release R2016a.
