Dear all
Recently I have install Matlab 2011a on ubuntu 11.04. Unfortunately, I could not “*Bold*” the axes values, xlabel and title. Moreover, I used “*plot tool*” and it dose not work. The appearance(Icon such as file, edit, etc) of new model in Simulink is similar to first versions of Matlab. Thanks so much ahead for helpful solution.

This might be related to: http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/1238-font-size-changes-in-figures
On Arch I needed to install the xorg-fonts* packages. In Ubuntu they are called xfonts-scalable, xfonts-100dpi and xfonts-75dpi. Prior to Natty, they were required for xorg, in Natty and Oneiric they are only suggested.

Dear ayoub.
The link u provided is with error message number different from the one u got. The error message 15 indicates that the license manager is not running or that ur machine couldn't communicate with the server machine which runs the license manager. Try to ping the license manager machine using the command "ping machine hostname" in a terminal. If u received an error, then u have a networking issue that prevents from contacting the license manager server. Also make sure that the SERVER line in the license.dat file on both the client and server r the same. Again, a firewall between the client and server may cause this problem. I hope you will solve your problem, for more answer visit,
thanks.

Just letting know that on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Matlab R2012a I encountered same kind font errors (eg. changeing fontnames failed, \Delta and some special characterslike 'ö' and ' failed to plot correctly, etc ...)
Probbably the solution from Ayub also works, but since it threw me with errors i used the dumb way :)
1. open 'Ubuntu Software Center'
2. Search + install '75 dpi fonts for X' and '100 dpi fonts for X'
Hopefully it saves someones time ^^
