What is the command used to create a .mdl(Simulink model) file.?

Either:
>> open_system(new_system))
Or:
>> simulink
File->New->Model

open_system only opens a current existing system. If you want to create one from scratch:
>> new_system('test') >> if ismac() >> save_system('test3','test3.slx') %for mac use extension .slx, windows use .mdl >> end; >> if ispc() >> save_system('test3','test3.mdl') >> end;
This should work.
