Why do I see the error "Warning: Unable to read the required metadata file" when trying to validate my PCT or MATLAB Parallel Server profile?

When I try to validate my parallel profile I get the following error message:
Warning: Unable to read the required metadata file /home/r/.matlab/local_cluster_jobs/R2015a/matlab_metadata.mat

This error indicates that the matlab_metadata.mat file has become corrupt or otherwise unreadable. To resolve this issue, move the matlab_metadata.mat file out of the R20XXx directory. The next time you validate, the file should be regenerated and validation should proceed normally.
NOTE: Starting in R2019a the following name changes occurred:
  • MATLAB Distributed Computing Server was renamed to MATLAB Parallel Server
  • mdce_def was renamed to mjs_def
  • mdce binary was renamed to mjs
