A time ago my editor/command window/workspace etc. quit showing their titles and are now just a thin bar.

As you can see the titles 'X' etc. are missing.

I've used the isequal before, had to try something new!
Anyway,

Is how my desktop typically looks. What you are seeing right now is where the text titles "Workspace" and "Current Folder" are typically displayed. The |X| box undock etc. are also missing from how they are in the typical image. I didn't (at least not to my knowledge) modify the preferences, it was just one day it started doing that. I'll post a larger image as well.

The Java deamon sits behind the windows an ate up the crunchy bars.
Did you try to delete the preferences file? (Backup copy!)
What happens if you choose another desktop layout in the menu?

Maybe you turned them off by accident? MATLAB lets you to do this to give you a bit more "useful" screen estate. Under the Desktop menu, check "Titles" to turn them back on.
