When running the MATLAB installer, I get an extract error that says the system cannot find the path specified.
Why do I get this error, and how can I resolve the issue?

Cause:
The error usually shows that the installer could not extract the .zip file packaged with the installer.
  • Administrative permissions
  • Antivirus Software
  • Corrupted Installer
Solution:
Delete the MATLAB installation files
  1. Go to your Downloads folder. C:\Users\<username>\Downloads
  2. Delete the MATLAB installer (matlab_R20XXx_*.exe and _temp_matlab_R20XXx_win64)
  3. Delete the MATLAB downloads folder (MathWorks)
Antivirus Software
To temporarily disable your Antivirus on Windows:
  1. Locate the Antivirus protection program icon on the Windows system tray.
  2. Right-click the icon and select Disable, Stop, etc. to temporarily disable the program. In some cases, you may need to open the program and disable it using the program's menus.
To temporarily disable your Antivirus on a Mac:
  1. Locate the Antivirus icon found on your Mac menu bar.
  2. Click Shut down or disable temporarily.
To temporarily disable your Antivirus on a Linux:
  1. Locate the Antivirus protection program icon on the Linux system tray.
  2. Click Shut down or disable temporarily.
Some security software will interpret the MATLAB installer as a false positive and prevent the installer from running. You can also boot your computer into Safe Mode with networking which will suppress your security software if the computer is in Safe Mode.
You may need to contact your IT Help Desk to change your security software setting
