Yamaha Motor Develops Concept Model for a Motorcycle with Self-Balancing Control
Yamaha Motor developed a motorbike that stands up and remains upright, going from idea to prototype in just two years.
Key Outcomes
- Quickly developed a concept model of a motorbike that stands and remains upright
- Achieved effective principle prototyping of autonomous balancing control using MATLAB and Simulink®
- Connected engineers by using MATLAB as a common language
Yamaha Motor developed MOTOROiD, a concept model of a motorcycle that autonomously stands and remains upright by continuously controlling the machine’s center of gravity.
Yamaha Motor engineers had only two years from idea to introduce MOTOROiD at a motor show. They used MATLAB® and toolboxes to model, design, and simulate the control system. Working in an integrated environment, MATLAB, helped facilitate communication between engineers.
