5G/WLAN wireless network modelling engineer

Job Summary

MathWorks is seeking an engineer with a background in wireless communication systems. You will be part of a team writing software to simulate the performance of wireless networks and measure their performance under different conditions including coexistence between different standards.  This position requires a range of skills including:

  • MATLAB programming
  • Wireless network modelling of 5G NR, 4G and WLAN systems
  • Knowledge of link level simulations
  • Experience with PHY and MAC of wireless standards
  • Familiarity with channel modelling theory
  • Designing, implementing and testing of software products
  • Interacting with customers and understanding their workflows and requirements
  • Showcasing our tools by developing demos illustrating the different aspects and use cases of our wireless simulation products
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with colleagues worldwide

  • Develop software simulations to analyse the performance of wireless networks. Consider different topologies, scenarios and wireless standards.
  • Model the effect on the wireless network of different algorithms such as scheduling, beamforming, link adaptation, cooperative multipoint.
  • Simulate and analyse the effect of wireless standards coexistence.
  • Develop software to model the physical and MAC layers of wireless communication standards.
  • Understand the state of the art of wireless system modelling technology.
  • Contribute to the development of our world-class software tools for the simulation of wireless communication standards.
  • Understand customer workflows and industry practices to develop the best tools for the job.
  • Work through the development cycle for each feature: gather requirements by engaging with customers and customer-facing engineers, design the feature by interacting with MathWorks development teams, code, debug and test new features and incorporate into our product’s codebase
  • Develop examples showcasing the best practices for using our tools.
  • Work closely with the MathWorks Quality Engineering (QE) team who will test your code, the Documentation team who will document it, and the Applications Engineering (AE) team who will provide feedback from customers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Programming experience with MATLAB
  • software development
  • Knowledge of communications systems
  • A bachelor's degree and 5 years of professional work experience (or a master's degree) is required.

Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of wireless communication standards such as: 5G, LTE, WLAN
  • Experience with a wireless network simulation tool such as NS3
  • Programming experience in C/C++
