Design Lidar-based Safe Landing Logic Using MATLAB and Simulink with Unreal

Overview

This seminar explores the use of MATLAB and Simulink to integrate sensors and controllers for autonomous operations and landing, and to simulate the integrated vehicle’s behavior in a photorealistic simulation environment.

Autonomous landing operations involve operating across multiple phases reliably. Simulating the complete system under various operational conditions allows engineers to identify potential failure modes and ensure success.

Highlights

  • Develop a safe landing algorithm that operates on lidar data
  • Integrate the algorithm and a lidar sensor into a vehicle model and then
  • Simulate safely landing in unexplored terrain while avoiding obstacles.

This is done as a closed-loop simulation using MATLAB, Simulink and Unreal.
