Computer Vision and Simulation for Spacecraft Relative Navigation

Overview

This seminar explores the use of MATLAB to develop perception capabilities for spacecraft navigation.

Spacecraft often rely on optical sensors for relative navigation operations. This sensor data is used by controllers under stringent fuel constraints in unforgiving environments. These systems must be rigorously tested in real or virtual simulators to ensure that they operate reliably under any expected operational conditions.

Highlights

  • Build AI based computer vision capabilities tailored for Terrain Relative Navigation and Spacecraft Pose Estimation
  • Simulate and visualize a spacecraft rendezvous and docking scenario that uses MATLAB, Simulink 3D Animation, Cesium and Unreal
