Language: English
Written for senior undergraduates in mathematics, engineering, and the sciences, Numerical Linear Algebra presents modern tools from numerical linear algebra, supporting theory, examples, and exercises (both theoretical and computational) with MATLAB. Topics covered include numerical linear algebra, solving linear systems, eigenvalue problems, conditioning, and matrix analysis. The central idea is to begin with the end in mind. In this book, the end is to provide a modern understanding of useful tools. The theories of algorithms that have proven to be robust and reliable receive less coverage than ones for which knowing something about the method can make a difference between solving a problem and not solving one. Where possible, methods are developed using an analysis-based approach since the background of typical students is more complete in analysis than in matrix theory.
