Actual distance calculations from image captured

i am doing project on image processing. My question is can we calculate actual distance, length, height from the picture we taken ? i mean the picture taken is confined in the given pixels i want to extract actual measurements from the picture taken. sir pls respond to my question......waiting for ur reply
